The Board of Parole Hearings Tuesday found John Zenc, 58, not suitable for parole, according to family members of the 15-year-old Redlands girl Zenc murdered in 1977.
He was sentenced to seven years to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 1977 for the murder.
Tuesday the board denied Zenc parole for another three years, according to family members.
“It was really a relief, just really a relief,” said Helen Reynoza, Paula’s mother, by phone after the hourslong hearing.
The board heard from Zenc and Connie Lasky, deputy district attorney with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s lifer unit.
“He is still blaming everybody,” Ruth Lopez, Paula’s sister, said by phone after the hearing. “He still hasn’t taken full responsibility of his actions.”
Lopez said Lasky was phenomenal.
“She explained everything to us in detail to where it was definitely easier for us to understand and she made us feel very comfortable,” Lopez said. “So (District Attorney) Mike Ramos definitely has a good person in the lifer unit.”
